Q. What are the Terms and Conditions of entering the Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards?

A. The Terms and Conditions for the competition are important to read and understand before you enter. They provide background to the process of entering images, judging and prizes and other important information.

Q. Who can enter the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards?

A. The Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards are open to all Australian residents from the Brisbane Local Government Area (LGA).

Q. How many times can I enter?

A. Entries are limited to one entry per person. The same photo submitted via the website and social media platforms will be considered as one entry.

Q. What is the prize if I win one of the categories?

A. Open Category $5000. First runner-up $2000. Second runner- up $1000. Student Category $3000. People's Choice Award $2000. Social Media Hashtag $1000.

Q. Who is eligible to enter the Student category?

A. The Student category is open to students currently studying at a registered educational institution within the Brisbane LGA, and who are living and residing in the Brisbane LGA. This includes students from primary school, high school, independent schools, TAFE and university. You will be required to prove your current student status prior to being awarded any prizes.

Q. I am under 18, can I enter?

A. Yes, provided you submit via the website or by using the #LMPA2018 hashtag on Instagram and check with your parent/s or guardian/s to ensure that they consent to you participating in the program and uploading any photographs. The parent or guardian will also need to accept the prize on your behalf. To submit via social media you must be over the age of 13 in compliance with the rules of the selected platform.

Q. I am a professional photographer – can I enter?

A. Yes, professional photographers can enter. The competition is for creatives of all skill levels from amateur, emerging to experienced. The focus of the competition is one of civic pride, with a focus on people, places and hidden parts of Brisbane.

Q. If I enter via social media, am I eligible to win any of the other categories?

A. Yes. All shortlisted social media entries will also be considered for all of the other categories if they are eligible. Please refer to the competition terms and conditions for further information.

Q. When is the entry period?

A. Entries open at 10am Wednesday 11 July 2018 and close at 5pm Wednesday 8 August 2018. Voting for the People’s Choice Award will take place from 10am Monday 27 August 2018 to 5pm Monday 24 September 2018.

Q. How do I upload a photo?

A. Go to Submit a photo on the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Award website and complete the Entry Form, following the instructions provided.

To enter the Social Media Hashtag category, share your image using the hashtag #LMPA2018 via Instagram. Your profile must be set to public in order for it to be a valid entry.

Q. Can I submit my photo via any social media platform?

A. No. Only entries shared via Instagram using the hashtag #LMPA2018 will constitute a valid Social Media Hashtag category entry.

Q. When uploading an image via the website, is a description mandatory?

A. Yes. You must provide a title and a brief artist statement sentence of up to 30 words, this is used to educate the audience about your image. As a guideline you could include when, where and why you took the photo and what you want the audience to know about the image and why you find the work interesting.

For social media entries this is not a requirement, however you will be required to accept the competition terms and conditions in order to be considered for prize money.

Q. Can I upload photos in portrait or landscape orientation?

A. Photos in either portrait or landscape orientation may be uploaded, please ensure your photo is oriented in the format which it is to be viewed for judging.

Q. What format does my image need to be?

A. Entries will only be accepted in JPEG format. Entrants may submit colour or black and white images. This includes entries submitted via Instagram.

Q. What file size does my image need to be?

A. Entries must be a minimum file size of 1MB and a maximum file size of 50MB. This does not apply to entries submitted via Instagram.

Q. Once I've entered a photo, can I change it?

A. No. Once you have submitted your image and photo information, it is final and cannot be changed. If you wish to withdraw your entry, please contact Council.

Q. Can I edit my photo and information after submitting?

A. No. Once you have submitted your image and photo information, it is final and cannot be changed.

Q. Will my entry be valid if I used photo-editing software on my image?

A. Yes. Entries submitted after using photo-editing software will be valid, the image will need to be recognisable as a photo image, not abstract art. 

Q. When I upload my image do I have to relinquish my copyright?

A. No. The copyright of all images submitted in the Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards will remain the property of the photographer. Agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, the photographer allows Brisbane City Council the use of your image as outlined in the Terms and Conditions.

Q. What if someone sees my image online and wants to buy it?

A. Brisbane City Council will endeavour to refer all sale enquiries to the entrant.
