What are the Terms and Conditions of entering the Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards?

The Terms and Conditions for the competition are important to read and understand before you enter. They provide background to the process of entering images, judging and prizes and other important information.

Who can enter the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards?

The Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards are open to all Australian residents.

How many times can I enter?

Entries are limited to one entry per person.

What is the prize if I win one of the categories?

Open Category $10,000. Tertiary Category $2000. People's Choice Award $1000.

Who is eligible to enter the Tertiary Category?

The Tertiary Category is open to emerging photographers within the first three years of their career. Students nearing the end of their degree or who have recently completed their degree are eligible. All students can enter the Open Category.

I am under 18, can I enter?

Yes, provided you check with your parent/s or guardian/s to ensure that they consent to you participating in the program and uploading any photos. The parent or guardian will also need to accept the prize on your behalf.

I am a professional photographer – can I enter?

Yes, professional photographers are encouraged to enter.

When is the entry period?

Entries open on Thursday 1 June 2017 to and close at 5pm Thursday 22 June 2017.

How do I upload a photo?

Go to Submit a photo and complete the Entry Form, following the instructions provided.

When uploading an image, is a description mandatory?

Yes. You must provide a title and a brief artist statement sentence of up to 30 words.

May I upload photos in portrait or landscape orientation?

Photos in either portrait or landscape orientation may be uploaded, please ensure your photo is oriented in the format which it is to be viewed for judging.

What format does my image need to be?

Entries will only be accepted in JPG format. Entrants may submit colour or black and white images.

What file size does my image need to be?

Entries must be a minimum file size of 1MB and a maximum file size of 50MB.

Once I've entered a photo, can I change it?

No, once you've submitted your image and photo information, it is final and cannot be changed. If you wish to withdraw your entry, please contact Council.

Can I edit my photo and information after submitting?

No, once you've submitted your image and photo information, it is final and cannot be changed.

Will my entry be valid if I used photo editing software on my image?

Yes, entries submitted after using photo editing software will be valid, judges will consider the entry based on the selection criteria of innovation and creativity.

When I upload my image do I have to relinquish my copyright?

No. The copyright of all images submitted in the Lord Mayor's Photographic Awards will remain the property of the photographer. Agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, the photographer allows Brisbane City Council the use of your image as outlined in the Terms and Conditions.

What if someone sees my image online and wants to buy it?

Brisbane City Council will endeavour to refer all sale enquiries to the entrant.
